Monitor

Usage

<h1>Usage</h1>
<div class="section">
Monitors with different primary uses will have different strengths. For example a gaming monitor will likely have a high refresh rate and response time for optimal gaming performance. On other hand a media creation monitor will have better contrast and color accuracy.
</div>
<div class="section">
Quality monitors will be viable for multiple or all of these use cases, however, some cheaper monitors may thrive in only one specific use case.
</div>

Screen Type

<h1>Screen Type</h1>

<div class="section">
<strong>Standard</strong> - Typically for monitors 30 inches or smaller. Standard monitors have an aspect ratio of 16:9, which has been the standard for years and is the same as TVs.
</div>
<div class="section">
<strong>Ultrawide</strong> - 33% more horizontal screen space than a standard monitor. Ultrawide monitors have an aspect ratio of 21:9. You can easily open two or more windows side by side for better work flow while avoiding the need for multiple monitors. Ultrawide monitors will likely be larger than 30 inches in size and curved. Because of these features ultrawide monitors come in at a higher price point.
</div>

Resolution

<h1>Resolution</h1>
<div class="section">
The higher the resolution the better the picture. Higher resolution also come at a steeper price point.
</div>
<div class="section">
<strong>1080p</strong> - Old standard which is now getting phased out. Can still work fine for a budget friendly general use or office monitor.
</div>
<div class="section">
<strong>1440p</strong> - New standard for all monitor types. Much better picture than 1080p at a slight increase in price. Not all PCs will be able to run 4k effectively, therefore 1440p is a great middle-ground for gaming monitors to maintain sharp images without the a large performance hit.
</div>
<div class="section">
<strong>2160p (4K)</strong> - Highest standard resolution best for top-end PCs. Mostly found on large monitors 30 inches or bigger. Maximum clarity for those looking for an amazing picture.
</div>

Size

<h1>Monitor Size</h1>
<div class="section">
Size is determined by the the diagonal length of a monitor. Monitors larger than 32 inches are often widescreen and curved.
</div>

<div class="section">
Each panel type has its own strengths and weaknesses. There are three typical LED based panels (TN, VA, IPS) and also OLED.
</div>
<div class="section">
<strong>TN</strong> - High refresh rates and response times at a budget price. Poor viewing angles and color accuracy in the majority of cases. For gamers willing to sacrifice some picture quality for higher speed and performance.
</div>
<div class="section">
<strong>VA</strong> - Good color accuracy and viewing angles, as well as superb contrast at a mid-range-to-premium price. Poor pixel response time, which can result in ghosting.
</div>
<div class="section">
<strong>IPS</strong> - Great color accuracy and superb viewing angles at a premium price. Not the best contrast because of backlight bleed. Highest price of the 3 LCD based panels especially at the higher-end models. Great all around pick for most people.
</div>
<div class="section">
<strong>OLED</strong> - A non-LCD panel with superb color and contrast. Comes at a fairly high price and is usually used for TVs rather than monitors. Unfortunately, OLED screens are prone to burn-in under certain circumstances by design. Mostly found on the largest of monitors (38in+). For those looking to use their monitor mostly for consuming media. Not ideal for gaming or media creation because of potential burn-in.
</div>

Refresh Rate

<h1>Refresh Rate (Hz)</h1>
<div class="section">
The refresh rate of a monitor is the number of times per second that the image refreshes on the screen. For example, a 60Hz display will update the screen 60 times per second. As you increase refresh rate the cost on the monitors will increase.
</div>
<div class="section">
144Hz is becoming the industry standard on gaming and media creation monitors. However, monitors for mixed use and office use can get away with lower refresh rates.
</div>

<h1>HDR</h1>

<div class="section">
HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and refers to contrast between the brightest and darkest parts in an image. In addition to improved brightness and darkness, higher end HDR often include improved color technologies. Monitors with increased bit depth, such as 10-bit color support, can display a higher number of colors for smoother transitions between hues.
</div>
<div class="section">
HDR is mostly desired by media creators in order to get the best contrast and color on their monitor for accurate editing.
</div>

<div class="section">
<strong>HDR400</strong> - Entry level for HDR capable monitors. A small step up from standard monitors. Will be found on cheaper and mid tier models. HDR400 screens use standard Red Green Blue (sRGB) color technology.
</div>

<div class="section">
<strong>HDR600</strong> - Along with brighter white and darker blacks than HDR400, HDR600 offers Wide Color Gamut (WCG) technology resulting in a much broader spectrum of coloring. For those looking for improved picture without paying top tier pricing.
</div>

<div class="section">
<strong>HDR1000</strong> - If you are looking for the most amazing and realistic imagery, HDR1000 is the right choice for you. Often preferred by media creators looking for high-end monitors or gamers looking to get the fullest experience from their game.
</div>

Curved

<h1>Curved vs Flat</h1>

<div class="section">
<strong>Flat</strong> - Cheaper option and will be standard on monitors 27 inches or smaller.
</div>
<div class="section">
<strong>Curved</strong> - Curved monitors cover more of your peripheral vision than their flat monitors resulting in a more immersive experience. Curved monitors are common on sizes 32 inches and up.
