What is motion smoothing, and should I use it?

Motion smoothing is a TV setting that artificially increases the frame rate by creating additional frames between the original ones. This can make fast action appear smoother, but it can also introduce what's known as the 'soap opera effect,' where everything looks overly smooth and unnatural. Many viewers find this effect distracting, especially for movies. It's great for sports and video games, but for regular TV shows and films, you might prefer to turn it off. Most modern TVs allow you to adjust or disable motion smoothing, giving you control over how much motion enhancement you want.
